The anticipation surrounding The Game Awards was significant, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a strange statue. The question has now been solved. Larian Studios is creating a brand-new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer packed with striking imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal descent into chaos.
A Different Direction
Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio warned that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.
Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This phrasing suggests that the team could be designing a real-time experience as opposed to another turn-based title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it sparked the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—elements that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency bestowed upon the player.
Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs only possible with a particular class or origin with a unique decision path.
The series is also famously flexible, allowing players to find creative solutions in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be completed in diverse methods, often in surprising fashion.
- You might progress the story because you recalled something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by using the world itself in a inventive way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, players can look forward to another adventure in this legendary franchise.
